02/02/2010: Great review from uncommonmusic.org !!

The Villains, a rocking debut and independent label DCM release, is an evident labor of love from a six-piece group of musicians each bringing an elemental different style yielding the creation of a refined collaborative release. The diversity within the band is the secret ingredient.
In essence, The Villain’s solid corner stones are six great musicians, well-written lyrics — written and co-written by Dan Call, finely honed harmonies, and terrific melodies.
The Villains are fruitful hybrids of progressive roots’ rock and 1970’s country-rock styles. Citing the musical influences of The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Wings, The Atlanta Rhythm Section and The Band we distill how their synchronized, fun, and based upon real life experiences vibes have become their own Americana sound. I would add Poco to this landscape.
The result is a seasoned sound which eases your ears into instant acceptance. The songs are at once fresh and familiar by telling our stories through common memories, hardships, shared attitudes, resignation, and the forecast of expected outcomes.
The Villains have a balance in beauty and form in the eight songs on this release. These songs are laced with rich tones and seamless harmonies. The melodies interweave with these effortless vocal deliveries for a well-blended sound.
The single, Let’s Forget About It Tonight, is an upbeat rock song flowing nicely along as it reels you in with its catchy hooks. On Going Deaf for A Living, we hear the humourous reflective reality of a road savvy traveling band. A growing fan base agrees their live show’s allow the band to really shine.
Overall, the CD has a scenic satiating effect leaving you wanting more, yet for now, we must settle for The Villains live concerts, or our replay button.
